- The General Intelligence Department was established pursuant to Law No. (24) of 1964, which has passed all its constitutional stages.
- The Director of General Intelligence is appointed by His Majesty the King by Royal Decree in accordance with the text of Article 127 of the Constitution. Intelligence officers are appointed by Royal Decree based on a recommendation from the Director General.Intelligence and the approval of the Prime Minister, and they are all university graduates in various specializations.
- The law defines the duty of the General Intelligence as protecting the internal and external security of the Kingdom, by carrying out the necessary intelligence operations for this.
- The General Intelligence carries out the duties assigned to it by the Prime Minister by written orders.
